Ferrari's 'World's Fastest' SUV Will Be Here In 2019

FCA boss Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that Ferrari will build an SUV, targeting a late 2019/early 2020 debut

There’s no escaping it now, a Ferrari SUV is definitely on the cards. Following up a declaration that Maranello is “dead serious” about producing a jacked-up, “utilitarian” vehicle, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has once again talked about the firm’s plans in that area.
It turns out the vehicle will be here a little sooner than thought, with Ferrari hoping to debut the car late 2019 or early 2020. “I’ve seen the car when I was in Europe eight days ago. So we are working on the vehicle but it’s not finished,” he told Auto Express at the Detroit Auto Show.

Unsurprisingly, it will be fast. “So far the fastest SUV belongs to Alfa and I don’t think Ferrari fears Alfa…It will do its best to build the fastest SUV,” he said. He’s referring to the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s Nurburgring lap record there, but we doubt Ferrari will be satisfied by using only the measure of the Nordschleife to dub its crossover as the fastest - surpassing the performance of the 641bhp Lamborghini Urus is almost certainly a consideration.
Engine-wise, the turbocharged V8 from the California T and GTC4Lusso T seems a likely candidate, but the idea of a Ferrari crossover would be much easier to accept if a V12 was involved. Go on Ferrari, you know you want to…
