Lexus LC convertible is rumoured to arrive by 2020, LC F may follow Article by Christian A.
Currently, there aren’t any Lexus convertibles out in the market, but it seems like it won’t be too long until we see one again. This is because Toyota’s premium brand is reportedly thinking of taking the LC’s roof off. These look pretty cool too for a more powerful variant of the coupe as well.
It also seems like the convertible is already a done deal. A source told Auto Express that there has already been a go signal for the production of this model. That being said, it is not scheduled to arrive dealerships until at least two years from now.
Yoshihiro Sawa, the Japanese automaker’s Senior Managing Officer, told Auto Express that their luxury market will definitely require a convertible, and that he hopes to have a convertible in their lineup very soon. So simply said, they have not confirmed the rumours yet.
A Lexus convertible’s main competition will be the BMW 8 Series droptop that we saw earlier, which also has not been released yet. But the LC has a more adventurous design and we think that this may lure more than a few customers away from the S550 Cabriolet.
Even if some sources claim that an LC F is going to be produced soon, an insider from Auto Express said that production of this model has not been approved yet. But instead, it still is under the executives’ consideration. If an actual LC F is on its way, it will likely have a 4.0 liter V8 that can produce as much as 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts). It will most probably be built with mostly carbon fiber parts as well to reduce its overall weight. But even with all the high performance upgrades that make it a sportier car, it will still have a touch of elegance in the cabin.
If all these reports are true, it seems like the LC F will be going against the AMG tuned variants of the Mercedes S-Class, an exciting model that follows the LFA supercar.
Earlier last year, in February, it was reported that Lexus filed for a trademark on the LC F nameplate. This does not only mean that they have been developing this for quite some time now, but also that this will likely become a production model. Further rumours said that it was supposed to make an appearance at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, and that it just did not push through.
Which of these two models are you guys more interested in? The LC F or the LC convertible?
