BMW M2 Competition likely to be launched in Beijing this April

This year, there are a handful of new models as well as updated versions of existing cars that are lined up to be launched. There are so many of them that we can’t keep track of all of them. But today, we will be talking about the Competition version of the BMW M2 that may be presented in April 2018 at the Beijing auto show.

Firstly, customers will be able to get the M2 competition in new colours like Hockenheim Silver and Sunset Orange, which will be added to the other available colours including Alpine White, Sapphire Black, Mineral Grey, and Long Beach Blue. The one in the photograph is dressed in the Long Beach Blue shade. We have not seen how the other colours of the cars look just yet, but it should not be too long before we see them.

According to our sources, the M2 Competition will come equipped with a detuned version of the 3.0 liter twin turbo inline six, similar to the engines of the larger models, M3 and M4, replacing the N55 3.0 liter TwinScroll six-cylinder in the outgoing M2. The new engine can give an output of 400 horsepower, which is a little more than the existing M2 with an output of 365 horsepower, but a little less than the M3 and M4 that carries out 425 horsepower. Furthermore, it will have nearly 500 Newton metres of torque - not bad at all.

As for the mechanical bits, we could also expect some bits that have been upgraded. This includes the upgraded suspension, brakes, and rolling stock to go with the power boost. This gives the M2 much more character, which will definitely please BMW M2 enthusiasts.

If our sources are right, then production of the super sporty, compact coupe should begin in July. However, BMW Blog revealed that the model will be launched in April. What it does mean is that we will not be seeing the M2 variant at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March 2018. But instead, we might actually see it at the Beijing Show which is scheduled to take place in late April.

BMW promises that the M2 Competition will take the sporty side of the regular M2 to a new level, which is really what excites us the most. The good news for BMW enthusiasts is that the M2 Competition will not be limited. However, the number of cars that will be produced will be based on the production capacity as well as the demand for the product. As mentioned earlier, the first batch of the Competition version of the M2 will be delivered to the first set of owners beginning late summer.
