Ford GT customers will have to wait a little longer due to supply constraints

Earlier this year, Ford had already begun deliveries of the Ford GT. However, the company has been experiencing some delays at their facility in Canada. This means that the next few GT supercars may take a little longer to get to their respective owners. The reason for the delay is due to supplier constraints and issues related to homologation testing

But Ford has already sent out letters to customers who will be receiving their Ford GTs later than the original schedule. According to Automotive News, Ford stated in the letter that “the craftsmanship required to build these vehicles for global markets has required that we adjust our original timing projections”. These letters were even signed by Global Marketing Manager Henry Ford III and Ford Performance boss Dave Pericak.

Having said that, the company did not mention when the Ford GTs will be delivered specifically. Instead, they will update the customers within the week providing them with a three-month delivery window. It is said that they have also nearly completed the ramp up process, and when it has been completed, they will be able to build one Ford GT a day. From now to 2020, there will only be 250 examples of the Ford GT to be built.

Ford began the production of this model back in December at Multimatic’s plant. And as of now, 50 units of the 250 examples of the GT have already been delivered to customers - some of which include former CEO Mark Fields, Executive Chairman Bill Ford, and celebrities like Jay Leno.

The Ford supercar comes equipped with a 3.5 liter biturbo V6 engine, that produces 647 horsepower. It is able to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in under 3 seconds, while continuing to a top speed of 216 miles per hour (347 kilometers per hour). The Ford GT has a price tag of $450,000.

Earlier this month, former talk show host Jay Leno comes out with a video of his brand new Ford GT on his series Jay Leno’s Garage. In the video, he talks about his Ford GT finished in black accented with orange stripes, making it look very similar to the first Ford GT built. Furthermore, he talks about the configuration box, the process of it being built, and everything else that he can talk about. He also gave advice not to order the titanium option, because the car will only lose 10 pounds with the extra $10,000 you’ll add.

Leno is one of the first customers to own the supercar, number 12 to be specific. He has already been spotted driving his car around California.
