Track-Ready 2018 Subaru BRZ tS is unveiled
Honda recently announced that the 2017 Civic Type R will be the first ever Civic Type R to make its way to U.S. shores, and it will be auctioned at "Bring a Trailer" site to a lucky guy for a good cause. Well, this time Honda may have a challenger that will also make its US debut soon. The vehicle in question is the 2018 Subaru BRZ tS, the US-spec version of which was officially revealed on June 8.
If you are an avid follower of Subaru Technica International, also commonly known as STI, you’ve probably been following news about this awe-inspiring model. The new WRX STI Type RA, as well as the U.S.-spec variant of the Subaru BRZ tS, finally had their wraps off.
The most recent teaser image of the tS revealed lightweight STI wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Tires, Brembo brakes and an upgraded aero package that comes with the hashtag #BRZts. The 2015 BRZ tS edition that was Japan-only unit model and only limited to 300 units, was released without the wing, but it was built with Bilstein suspension all around, an STI engine V Bar, carbon fiber look dash pane, Recaro bucket seats and Alcantara trimmings found throughout the cabin.
But the downside is the lack of a power upgrade. The teaser image somewhat cemented the possibility that the upgraded BRZ will not be a turbo maniac but more of a US version of the vehicle that was unveiled in Japan in the previous years. This is somewhat the BRZ's take on the Porsche Cayman GT4- superior handling but doesn't emphasize more on power.
The last BRZ tS maintained its powertrain and instead the Japanese automaker set its sights on the number of suspension and aerodynamic boost to enable the vehicle to be a better star on the track. The US version retained its naturally-aspirated 2.0 L boxer engine which can produce around 152 kW (212 Nm) in 6-speed manual transmission and 147 kW (205 Nm) with the 6-speed automatic transmission.
Subaru has offered the BRZ with the Performance Pack in the U.S., and it is awesome. The tS version will be of a whole different level and is considered as the more-track focused for drivers who are keen on getting the most out of the coupe. The Performance Pack vehicle is as appealing on the roads as it is on the track, and we can't wait to test out the upcoming tS.
