2017 Ford GT rolls off production site wrapped in Verde Mantis

A monster in a sporty elegant outfit, the 2017 Ford GT started rolling off the carmaker’s Multimatic facility in Markham, Ontario in Canada in February this year. There are 250 units bound to be produced annually for four years (total of 1,000). Nevertheless, it’s quite a stunning sight for a new Ford GT to be wrapped in a greenish finish similar to same to that of Lamborghini’s Verde Mantisgreen wrap.

Of course, it won't take long for a Lamborghini fan or enthusiast to recognize that this greenish shade wrapping on the new 2017 Ford GT is somewhat lifted off from the Lamborhini-exclusive color palette. Perhaps, the color of this 2017 Ford GT was inspired by the intense power of radiation, knowing that this all-new supercar packs some dynamic power itself. The debate may rage on of whether the color of this Ford GT is derived from Lamborghini’s palette, but one thing is clear for us, it sure looks good on Ford’s fastest production vehicle on track. This greenish shade attracts attention whether it is being driven or just lurking at a parking lot. Moreover, it sends chills to more than a few onlookers as it exudes power in an eccentric yet effective manner. Whether people like it or not, this color is a choice made by this Ford GT’s owner, who is lucky enough to be one of the 1,000 customers to own this new American supercar.

Interestingly, the first owners of the new Ford GT supercar are Ford Motor Co.’s executive chairman Bill Ford Jr. and chief executive Mark Fields. It was unveiled more than two years ago at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The next generation of the Ford GT has already seen demand easily surpass the planned production numbers of 1,000 examples.

According to Ford, the new Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that is SAE-rated to deliver 647 hp of max output and 550 lb.-ft. of peak torque. The wide power band of this V6 engine -- the most powerful among EcoBoost production mills – allows this unit to generate 90 percent of peak torque starting from 3,500 rpm. Moreover, given the fact that the 2017Ford GT has a dry weight of around 3,000 lbs (1,385 kg), its power-to-weight ratio is pegged at 4.72 lbs per hp. Its 0-60 mph sprint wasn’t given, but Ford did disclose that the new Ford GT could go as fast as 216 mph.
