BMW allows customers to create their X2 using its online configurator

It was in October 2017 when BMW officially revealed the X2 Crossover. This is the sixth model to be part of the brand’s SUV family and it is seen to be a more athletic version of the X1.

On its website, BMW is offering customers the chance to configure how they would want their X2 to look.

As a start, all X2 versions will be fitted with the alloy 18-inch wheels. On the inside, offerings include an infotainment system, 7-speaker audio, leatherette seat, and even climate control. The price tag is $38,400, which excludes the destination and handling fee of $995. This remains to be more expensive though than the X1 with similar features. It is even more expensive than the GLA 250 4Matic from Mercedes-Benz. However, it is cheaper by $9,200, compared to the X4.

A Convenience Tier is offered with the lowest one priced at $40,750, again excluding the $995 destination charge. Features include, among others, power-folding mirrors, lumbar support, comfort access keyless entry, and panoramic sunroof. Customers can also choose from a Driving Assistance Package worth $700 and a Dynamic Handling Package amounting to $600. Additional options, like heated front seats and wireless charging, can be included but will entail additional costs.

The third is a Premium Tier with a base price of $41,000, or $41,995 with destination charge included. Packages offered are the same as that under the Convenience Tier. Fitting in the top features, the X2 could well exceed $50,000. That makes it more expensive than the X3 and X4 and is almost similar to the X5, which in the U.S. market is priced at $56,600.

When the X2 was first presented, it was nicknamed as the “cool X.” This was mainly because while it was indeed based on the brand’s X1, the X2 was lower and shorter. The unique style also resulted in the X2 looking more like a large hatchback rather than a standard crossover.

The exterior revealed a different take for its kidney grille with the bottom being wider than the top. On each side of the grille are large air intakes as well as slender headlights. Moving towards the rear, one is likely to see the rakish windscreen, then the compact greenhouse, and finally the gently sloping roof which eventually goes down to the spoiler mounted on the tailgate. The X2 can be fitted with different wheel sizes beginning with the 17-inch variant all the way to the 20-inch version.

While the Europe version of the X2 will come with a choice of three different engines, the one in the U.S. will be powered with the four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter engine capable of 228 hp with peak torque of 258 lb.-ft. With this, the X2 can go from a standstill to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed of 143 mph.
