Genesis G90 Special Edition is likely inspired by a Bentley

Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle division of South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company, takes a step further from their usual designs as they unveiled the G90 Special Edition - a vehicle that represents a marriage of luxury and technology. Hyundai also announced new developments at the latest Seoul Motor Show this week.
Dressed in a two-tone paint finish, the G90 Special Edition showcased three different versions. The first one came in a metallic brown and matte grey combo, the other one was a matte grey and silver, and last but not the least, a metallic blue and solid white finish - all of these colour combinations were “inspired by a finely-tailored gentleman’s pin-stripe suit” according to the company.
We strongly feel like the South Korean automaker is shying away from conservative designs and instead is leaning towards something different this time. The Special Edition vehicle features an upgraded interior with Nubuck leather trim, accent stitching, upgraded carpeting, and more. While each of them has a hand-painted coach line running all around the sides of the vehicle’s exterior. At first glance, you would think it is a Bentley. You’ll just be surprised that it is a Genesis when you have a closer look. Perhaps it’s because the former design director of Bentley, Luc Donckerwolke, has been leading the design brand since early last year.
Actually, the whole Genesis team is led by people who came from European luxury car companies. Among the most notable ones are senior vice president, Manfred Fitzgerald, who was a former director of brand design at Lamborghini, and Peter Schreyer who served as Hyundai-Kia’s chief designer. Albert Biermann, on the other hand, was the former head of BMW’s M performance division, who now oversees tuning and performance.
Since they did not mention what’s under the hood of the G90 Special Edition, we are guessing that it probably has the same as the standard G90. With a twin turbo 3.3 liter V6 engine that produced 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. It’s either that or a 5.0 liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.
Furthermore, apart from the upgraded interior, it probably comes with the same infotainment system that makes use of a 12.3 inch HD digital display.
Genesis has not mentioned anything about a foreign release yet. However, this car was reportedly used in Los Angeles just last month by VIPs to and from Vanity Fair’s Oscar party.
After revealing the Special Edition Genesis, the company also announced that they will be launching two new electrified versions of this model soon - first is a 2019 plug in hybrid, and later on in 2021, there would be a fully electric version. Now, that is something we have not seen from Bentley yet.
