2017 marks Porsche Macan’s best sales yet with 97,000 units sold, beats 911 by huge margin
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), revealed that in the U.S. market, a total of 3,913 units were sold in December 2017. These are for the model lines that include the 718 Boxster, 911, Cayenne, Cayman, Macan, and Panamera. With this, total U.S. vehicle sales of the Porsche for 2017 are 55,420 units. This is higher by 2.1% when compared to sales in 2016, at 54,280 units.
Meanwhile, sales of the Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles amounted to 2,153 units. This represents an increase of 24.6% compared to sales in December 2016. In terms of total annual sales, the figure stands at 19,104 deliveries, an increase of 12.5%.
For December 2017, the Porsche Macan represented almost 37% of the total sales with 1,444 units sold. This was followed by the Cayenne at 24% with 940 units and at third is the 911 at around 20% for 773 units sold. However, it is worth noting that compared to the previous year, the Cayenne was down around 20% with the 911 experiencing a slight increase at 9%.
President and CEO of PCNA Klaus Zellmer said that with the demand for two-door and four-door Porsche sports cars, the brand has once against experienced another record in annual sales. This will be the eighth straight year that PCNA has experienced increase in sales. While the sales of 911 did increase, he added, the Panamera and the Macan also experienced growths in the double digits. He said that customers can expect an added increase once the new Cayenne arrives in the market during the second half of 2018.
In terms of worldwide sales, 97,000 units of the Macan were sold in 2017. This includes the base model all the way to the high-powered turbo version. This marks a 2% increase compared to the prior year and is the best sales year of the Macan ever. The figures mean that the brand is close to selling 100,000 units per year. For 2017, Porsche revealed that 25,000 units of the 911 sports car were sold. Though this means a 6% increase compared to 2016, it means that customers prefer the Macan over the 911 on a three-to-one ratio.
Sales of the 911 were helped with the 911 S and the GTS versions. Adding in to the figures for the 911 are sales of the high performance versions like that GT2 RS and the GT3.
The new Panamera also experienced record sales in 2017 with 28,000 units sold. This is an increase of 83% compared to 2016. Helping with the impressive increase are the Panamera Turbo and the Panamer E-Hybrid. Surprisingly, the only region where the Porsche experienced a decrease was in Germany, its home region, by negative 3%. The most significant increase was in the Chinese market at 10%. The Middle-East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific all report a 6% increase.
