Turkish render is of a futuristic Jaguar XJ220 dubbed SS-107 for Le Mans

Jaguar won in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its renowned XJR-12 race car in 1990. After 3 years, the team decided to send 3 XJ220s, but these were not as successful as the previous ones. Truth be told, the British marque has not been a top performer in the track in more than 20 years. Now one designer is adding his personal touch to the race car hoping that his concept will be of help.

The original Jaguar XJ220 is a 2-seater supercar that was produced in joint efforts with specialist automotive and race engineering company Tom Walkinshaw Racing. The classic XJ220 was considered the fastest production car from 1992 to 1993.

Now a new concept has been found, labelled as the Jaguar SS-107. The render is the brainchild of Serdar Soyal, hailing from Turkey. Soyal is the Senior Designer and Industrial Design Team Leader of the transportation design studio Soyal Creative. He came up with the render of the futuristic XJ220 as part of this year's Michelin Design Challenge.

The concept previews an entry into the 2030 24 Hours of Le Mans to celebrate the 107th anniversary of the renowned racing event, hence the name. It also marks the 85th year of Jaguar. The rendered SS-107 tapped its idea from a few familiar design aspects akin to the modern Le Mans racers. Its features include the low, sloped front end, headlights fitted into the front fenders and a sail-resembling back spoiler all based on the current model. Now the concept will be different when it comes to its engineering.

The Turkish renderer foresees that this Le Mans-bound brainchild would be more or less fully electric, it is the year 2030 after all. Four battery packs will be fitted, each will be joined with an advanced turbine system that will aid in regenerating the battery whilst on track.

Furthermore, body-mounted turbines will be attached to do the same purpose. Thanks to its state of the art powertrain, the race car will cover an approximate range of 660 miles (1,065 km) only needing a single charge to achieve its predicted run, and with it an ability to transfer to fully charged batteries/tires swiftly such as in a pit stop. Predicted top speed of the Jaguar SS-107 is around 288 miles per hour (465 km per hour).

The SS-107's design was based on a single monocoque chassis that will come custom-fitted to the driver, and gets its inspiration from the best of the best of Le Mans racers and the noted XJ220 road car. A nanotech hydrophilic glass windshield will yield unrestricted vision while you drive, and a single nano-gel racing seat will specifically cater to the driver's dimensions. The concept is truly futuristic in a sense, and Soyal commented that his brainchild render might be the best way to go forward for the future of Le Mans.
